Please visit the main "Classes" page for current course offerings.
As we continue to receive questions, we will update this page with the most commonly asked ones.
Q: Where do tutoring/class sessions occur?
A: Due to COVID-19, all programs take place online through platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams.
Q: Who can sign up for the tutoring program/classes?
A: Anyone, regardless of geographic location, can sign up, provided they have access to the internet. Our primary focus is on the Bay Area, and in-person classes are only offered there.
Q: Are classes/tutoring free?
A: Yes! The Evergreen Initiative is a legally registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all of our programs are free –– no donation/payment required. However, there are many ways to support us including helping us spread the word within your personal networks, donating money when you see us at community events, volunteering, or sharing the opportunities we provide with your local community.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: Visit the "Register" tab and click the link to the tutoring or classes sign up form. Once you have filled out and submitted the form, we will get back to you as soon as possible!
Q: Can I use these classes to skip a course at school?
A: No. Classes are intended to be supplemental/extracurricular in nature and not to replace credit-bearing courses from educational institutions. However, our classes may be a good way to explore your interests or learn ahead in a particular subject!
Q: Who are the tutors/teachers?
A: We recruit volunteers who are experienced high school and college students to be tutors/teachers for our programs. Many of them have perfect GPAs, outstanding academic/extracurricular achievement, and/or a history of tutoring/teaching peers and students. These are all unpaid volunteers and are generously dedicating their time. When a student is paired with a tutor, the tutor's biography and qualifications will also be shared with you. Teachers' experience and qualifications are listed in the course catalog on the "Classes" page.
Q: Can families who do not speak English sign up?
A: Yes. However, we have a limited amount of tutors/teachers who are comfortable with teaching in a language other than English. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but unfortunately we have a limited number of volunteers.
Q: What if I want to be a tutor or teacher?
A: Visit the "Volunteer" page for more information on how you can help!
Q: What if my question wasn't answered here?
A: You can let us know via the contact form on the homepage, or by sending us an email!
